C4 RSS Feed

This competency was easy enough to figure out. These RSS feeds are bringing the updated blog or podcast (news) to my google reader and the feed lets me know when they've been updated. I had trouble finding feeds specific to marketing the academic library, so broadened my search terms to include academic libraries in general. I enjoyed what I found. I know the directions say to link up just one, but I couldn't resist "plugging in" and signing up for a few more. They're posted along the righthand column of this Bibliotecaria blog and discussed below in this post.

The ALA site had many feeds available, there were three I'd like to follow and see if they are as helpful as I imagine:
  • Locally there is now a trend toward celebrating women in the workplace. Groups of women are banding together to explore our role in higher education, our lifestyles, professional support and to appreciate the work our colleagues are doing. While this is not a passion I am interested in following the course of woman in professional librarianship. For introductions I will explore this COSWL Cause provided by ALA.
  • I'm most excited about the Professionaltips wiki provided by ALA. It has so many categories, conversations, and tips on how 'they' do the job; I'll look through this for best practices and tips.
  • Using a googled rss search I found another enticing feed by Greg Schwartz, author of the Open Stacks blog (http://openstacks.net/os/). Mr Schwartz is very entertaining to read, and is full of things to write on about. Uncontrolled Vocabulary is a weekly round-table accessible through this feed. I enjoy talk radio when the conversation is good. I listened to the most recent post, during the wind storms February 11th. The show was entertaining and all library. I'll go back and listen to more.

Finally, I signed up for the ACRL podcast to explore an entry port to current events in the academic library world. The Association for College and Research Libraries tailors to needs and concerns unique to my library community.
