C6 The Most Specific Faction First Approach

Database: Worldcat

Facets:
(academic libraries or college libraries)
(marketing or outreach or promotion)
(library instruction or library services)

Facet I think will have the fewest hits: (library instruction or library services) 1,438 hits

__________________________________________________
Taking this further... good practice.

My guess for the second most specific faction is (academic libraries or college libraries) 397 hits.
Although my guess was wrong, this is still way too many results. In the top 20, I see little precision re: marketing the academic library.
Hmmm.... I wonder what the third set will bring....
(marketing or outreach or promotion) 4 hits! Oh My, could that be true? Unfortunately these 4 are totally irrelevant.

I choose to do a successive fraction search so that I can find a different perspective on this search string. I have faith in the database will provide useful results once my concepts are together.

Subsequent successive fraction search: (academic libraries or college libraries) AND (marketing or outreach or promotion) AND (library instruction or library services) lent 19 results.

Here is one: Academic library outreach : beyond the campus walls /
Author: Courtney, Nancy. Published in 2009.
Also according to Worldcat, the Univ of TX, El Paso, is the nearest library to own this book -220 miles southeast. Hurah for ILL!

-note: I originally posted this search on March 1st. Today, April 7th, I see Worldcat has updated holdings showing UNM now has this book on order; just five blocks away from my home library! ...too bad for our ILL division.

Key terms assigned to this book: Library outreach programs -- United States -- Case studies. Academic libraries -- Off-campus services -- United States -- Case studies. Libraries and community -- United States -- Case studies. Nancy Courtney

I looked up the record in the Library of Congress: just for grins. I guess I'm getting into this.
Call number assigned: Z711.7 A25 2009
Their metadata matches Worldcat's. Here is a link to the record in the LoC: http://lccn.loc.gov/2008031206

I was able to see the table of contents in Worldcat, though not much else in the way of reviews there. I looked around the web for book reviews with little luck. The book is just too new. Some papers from the ToC I'd like to look at when I pull it off the shelf:

Cultural lessons : academic outreach across borders / Thembi Hadebe, Robin Kear, and Paula M. Smith

Growing grassroots collaboration between academic and public libraries / Stephanie M. Mathson, Robin M. Sabo, and Joyce Salisbury

Reaching out through digital library programs : the Everglades Digital Library experience / Gail Clement

Partnerships beyond the university campus : community connections that work / Toni Tucker
