I was not expecting much about outreach in this search. I've seen another increase in our Native American student body this semester and wanted to see what this database has on Native American college libraries. Three of the results are not related to outreach; two of the 5 talk about using the website to provide information resources to surrounding Native communities. I was pleased to see the articles on websites as I have been thinking about how to use our webpage to reach out to students. The library’s website can be a powerful marketing tool.
The result I found to be most pertinent is cited below. Oksale: building a culturally responsive virtual library of education resources for a tribal college. In this case a northwestern college library is using their webpage to reach out to the surrounding American Indian population, targeting specifically the college’s service area and student body.
The author, and her classmates in the University of Texas MLIS program, created a virtual library of education resources for students attending Northwest Indian College in Washington. The virtual library includes pathfinders and links to related sources. The MLIS students also included library instruction and information literacy resources and software application tutorial-handouts. The construction and design of the virtual library addressed the unique needs and interests of the Native students. This was accomplished through communal decision making and Tribal input. Once completed, the college library in Lummi, Washington used this virtual library to reach out to the pre-service teachers in the Northwest. This database was ultimately a tool for all 32 Tribal colleges in the United States, perhaps beyond.

It is obvious that the future of academic libraries includes strong online collections accessible through quality websites. Taking the time to create these databases and responding to user feedback is an essential aspect of sustainable useful academic libraries.
